The closure of two key mid-sized venues in Zürich has raised concerns about the future of artist development and international touring in Switzerland, with Gadget Entertainments’s Stefan Wyss warning that a fragmented touring ladder could have effects for years to come.

While Switzerland’s live sector remains healthy overall, the loss of two venues in its largest city has exposed growing concerns about the country’s touring infrastructure.

The 1,800-capacity Komplex457 will close and be demolished in early 2027, while X-TRA (cap. 1,500) is looking for a new location to house its operations beyond summer 2027, leaving Volkhaus (1,600) as Zürich’s only major venue at that level.
