Inside Sziget’s ‘rebirth’ as an independent festival

The 2026 edition of Sziget will usher in a new era for the long-standing Hungarian festival, which returned to independence late last year. Superstruct acquired 70% of the Sziget festival in 2017, becoming the live entertainment company’s first major acquisition.

But in November 2025, it was announced that the Budapest-based event reverted to management and founder Károly Gerendai, who returns to the festival after eight years.
