BST Hyde Park expansion highlights London’s growing festival debate

Local authorities have approved a 75,000-person capacity boost for the AEG-backed London series, allowing 630,000 fans across nine events

London’s BST Hyde Park series will be able to welcome an additional 75,000 fans across its annual programming, after local authorities approved a 14.5% bump in total capacity, despite objections from residents and concerns raised by police.

In a decision issued last week (4 June), Westminster City Council granted a new premises licence allowing the series to host up to 630,000 attendees across nine events, with a maximum daily capacity of 69,999. As it stands, the AEG Presents-organised series can welcome 550,000 total people.
