EU firms eye noise prediction standard to aid festival planning headaches

Festivals could see lengthy environmental consultations with local authorities shaved down to mere minutes under potential new standard

A group of European audio and noise modelling companies is aiming to establish a new standardised method of noise prediction, to streamline how concert and festival organisers ensure environmental compliance with authorities.

Known as the SDE Standard, it is the work of L‑Acoustics, d&b audiotechnik, and SoundPLAN, who say the new system is a neutral, cross‑manufacturer standard for exporting sound system data into environmental noise‑prediction software.
