UK Purple Guide scheme draws questions from critics

The events sector scheme would be the first Primary Authority to consult on non-legally binding guidance, inviting skepticism from its opponents

Controversy in the UK festival sector continues over plans to establish a Primary Authority around the compliance handbook the ‘Purple Guide, as some industry figures have voiced doubts that the scheme can deliver the level of legal certainty its backers intend.

This comes after several months of debate in the events sector about the prospect of establishing the Primary Authority through Brighton and Hove Council, with proponents arguing such an authority could help define common inconsistencies in the interpretation of regulations around outdoor events by different local authorities, and provide a central repository of data on interpretations.
