G! Festival: Inside one of the world’s most remote music festivals

With limited resources and temperamental weather on the Faroese village of Syðrugøta, its 6,600-capacity non-profit festival is a feat of logistics and community spirit

For an archipelago of just 55,000, the Faroe Islands are producing more than their fair share of talent. Teitur, Eivør, Greta Svabo Bech and Joe & the Shitboys are among the best-known exports of the 18 islands, located between Iceland and Norway in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Bech collaborated with Deadmau5 on the Grammy-nominated Raise Your Weapon, while the Shitboys have been continuously championed as the “best band in the world” on Iggy Pop’s radio show and at his concerts.
