Provinssi festival organisers discuss using their festival’s platform to stand up for marginalised communities, amid ongoing court cases

For years, Provinssi festival in Finland has invited local and national politicians as guests to the event. It is important that decision-makers see what we do and for the politicians to get a better understanding of the event business.

To receive free tickets, guests must sign a code of conduct that seeks to promote equality, diversity, and equity.

In 2023, an MP accepted the invitation and attended the festival. During the festival, a local newspaper published a column by him that was extremely transphobic and clearly violated the values we ask our guests to uphold. So, a decision to revoke his invitation was made. He was emailed about this but still came to the event on the last day.
