Garden Helsinki arena faces funding obstacle as gov’t subsidy pulled

A Finnish entertainment complex and 19,000-capacity arena hangs in the balance after the government pulled €35 million in funding amid controversy over the use of state funds for the private project.

Yesterday (21 July), Finland’s Prime Minister, Petteri Orpo, survived a confidence vote after weeks of contention around the government’s involvement in the Garden Helsinki project. Last year, the four-party coalition government approved a conditional €35m subsidy in its mid-term budget discussion for the multi-purpose arena’s construction.
