Korean prosecutors have rejected local authorities’ request for an arrest warrant for HYBE chairman Bang Si-Hyuk, citing insufficient evidence over claims of investor fraud.
On Friday (24 April), the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office rejected the police request filed earlier in the week, which sought to see Bang arrested on fraudulent trading over the listing of HYBE (then Big Hit Entertainment) in 2019.
“At this stage, there is insufficient evidence to justify the necessity of detention, and we have therefore requested a supplementary investigation,” the prosecution said.
He is being investigated over allegations that he misled investors by telling them there were no plans for a public stock listing and leading shareholders to sell their shares to a private equity fund, according to multiple international reports.
