Mexico City’s Estadio Banorte reopens after €175m refresh

The football stadium, FKA Estadio Azteca, will rejoin the touring circuit with a capacity increase to 90,000 after hosting the World Cup

Mexico City’s Estadio Banorte has reopened following a large-scale renovation, which resulted in a capacity bump to 90,000, as it prepares to host the FIFA World Cup this year and return to the touring circuit.

The stadium, formerly known as Estadio Azteca, reopened over the weekend (28 March) with a friendly football match between Mexico and Portugal. It was the culmination of 20 months of effort to revamp the venue, with a total investment of around €175 million.
