Illinois targets bots and ‘ghost selling’ in ticketing crackdown

The state's governor signed a series of bills into law last week aiming to combat bot purchasing, junk fees, and speculative listing

Illinois has signed into law a package of legislation to ban speculative ticket listings as well as the use of bots in online event ticket sales.

The ticketing measures come as part of a wider suite of consumer protection laws, signed off by state governor JB Pritzker late last week, which also target practices such as ‘junk fees’ across a range of industries, as well as predatory consumer loans.
