Malaysian live sector calls for Entertainment tax abolition

The longstanding levy on paid admission events could hamper the country's ambitions to bolster its status as a live music hub, campaigners say

Malaysia’s live entertainment industry organisation, ALIFE, has marked the launch of a campaign to abolish the country’s Entertainment Tax, arguing it passes unnecessary cost burdens on to fans in the country’s concert sector.

It comes as the Malaysian sector eyes a concerted push to grow the country, particularly its capital city of Kuala Lumpur, as a pre-eminent live music destination.
