NIVA report: 64% of US indie venues unprofitable

The State of Live study found that independent live venues, festivals and promoters contributed $86.2 billion to the US GDP in 2024

The National Independent Venue Association’s (NIVA) first-ever national economic impact study has brought mixed results for the sector.

The State of Live, which was conducted by leading economic research firm TEConomy Partners, found that independent live venues, festivals and promoters contributed $86.2 billion (€74.3bn) to the US GDP in 2024.

Moreover, indie stages generated $153.1bn in total economic output, including indirect effects from fan spending, tourism and local businesses, and supported 900,000 jobs across the country.
