While 75% of the country’s shows are contemporary Greek music, the number of international artists performing in Greece each year is on an upward trajectory, according to Detox Events’ Giannis Paltoglou.
Mid-sized venues between 7,000 and 15,000 capacity in Greece are sorely lacking, leaving stadiums and festivals to do the heavy lifting when it comes to attracting and servicing international acts.
The 14,521-capacity Telekom Center Athens (previously OAKA Basketball Arena) is predominantly used for basketball, but a handful of acts, including Bryan Adams and Deep Purple, are due to visit later this year.
