Market Report: Venezuela
A country in political and economic turmoil, Venezuela has seen over 5m citizens flee the country and 9m fall into food insecurity since its oil revenues collapsed a decade ago, causing skyrocketing inflation and widespread shortages.
Having been a key territory in major tours beforehand, the live entertainment market was almost entirely shut down. But the relaxation of currency laws in 2019, permitting the use of US dollars, stabilised the economy, allowing the events business to relaunch over the past two years almost from scratch.
“This is a very singular market,” says Francisco Mendez, director general of Passline Venezuela, which launches in September, aware of the challenges and possibilities of this fast-growing market hungry for events.
