Country Profile: Austria
In historically prosperous Austria, an economic recession has been underway since 2023, but shows and festivals remain relatively affordable luxuries. Even price rises have done little to stifle demand in a market that gobbles up all the arena and stadium shows that come its way, as well as a chunky lineup of festivals.
“The Austrian market is in good shape, but it’s not without challenges,” says Ewald Tatar, CEO of CTS Eventim-backed promoter Barracuda Music Group. “Rising costs, from production to staffing, have been the big issue this year and keeping ticket prices reasonable while still delivering top shows isn’t easy.
The positive side is that demand for big live moments is still very strong.”
For Barracuda, those moments have included a first Austrian band to sell out Vienna’s 55,000-cap Ernst-HappelStadion, the wildly popular local duo Seiler und Speer, as well as festivals including the mighty Nova Rock and FM4 Frequency and the debutant Forestglade. “The Austrian festival market has definitely become more competitive, but there’s still plenty of demand if you get the mix right,”…
