Country Profile: Kuwait

Traditionally one of the most liberal nations in the Gulf, Kuwait is an increasingly accessible market and with up-todate infrastructure.

The 5,000-capacity Arena Kuwait, which opened five years ago, has put the oil-rich state on a new kind of map and operates a steady schedule of mostly Arabic shows, with some Western diversions.

Local event organisers, including Pacha Group, Fame Entertainment, and Saudia label giant Rotana Music Group, are among the prime movers behind numerous Arabic artist concerts in Kuwait. Rotana recently staged Saudi star Abdul Majeed Abdullah at Arena Kuwait, while Fame Entertainment brought UK ’00s pop quartet Blue to the state for two shows in April at the National Theatre (formally the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre) as part of their 20th anniversary world tour.
