On paper, Australia’s live music industry is formidable: an A$8.8bn sector, with live performance alone worth A$4.8bn.
Yet, beneath the glitzy surface, over 1,300 venues have closed since 2020 and high-profile festival collapses have dominated headlines. As the pandemic storm calms, attunement to audience demand is a guiding light.
The top end is solid, as Live Nation’s Australia and New Zealand president, Alex Klos, attests: “Demand for live experiences shows no sign of slowing, and the market remains strong. 2024 saw the live music industry reach new heights, with growth continuing into this year.”
