The UK is one of the biggest live music markets in the world and trade body LIVE has reported that its wider financial repercussions meant that it contributed £6.1bn to the British economy in 2023. UK Music, meanwhile, reported that music tourists spent £10bn at music events in the country in 2024, a jump of 25% from 2023.
London, unsurprisingly, dominates and LIVE reports that the capital makes up almost a third (30.6%) of that £6.bn, followed by Manchester (7.4%) and Glasgow (5.5%).
While these numbers are worthy of praise, they do show how the market skews increasingly towards a few of the biggest cities, with secondary and tertiary cities left fighting over the remainder.
Among the key promoters here, SJM Concerts has enjoyed a banner year, promoting Oasis’s shows with Live Nation, alongside a very broad range of concerts nationally. Live Nation is among those benefitting enormously from the live boom.
