Arena Market: Bolivia
There is no modern indoor arena in the Bolivian capital of La Paz, but there is soon to be a modern stadium of comparable size.
In the historic neighbourhood of Tembladerani, the Simón Bolívar Stadium, with a capacity up to 20,000 seats, is rising on the site of the former Simón Bolívar Liberator Stadium – a home for Club Bolívar and, it is suggested, for concerts and other activities.
Completion is scheduled for this year, though no date is set.
Meanwhile, Bolivia remains, by most metrics, the poorest nation in Latin America, with 80% of its population in poverty. The 8,000- to 10,000-cap Teatro al Aire Libre Jaime Laredo, built in 1952, is the only outdoor amphitheatre in La Paz. Kalimba, Camila, C.R.O. (MDB), and Mexican rockers Molotov have all visited in recent months.
