Arena Market: Germany

As one of Europe’s most powerful economies and its strongest touring market, Germany can, in many ways, sway what happens across the rest of the continent. A strong German live market is traditionally good for the rest of Europe.

It is, fortunately, in rude health, with trade body BDKV reporting in late 2024 that Germany’s live business generated €5.6bn in 2023, up 20% on 2019 (i.e. on pre-pandemic revenues). BDKV president Sonia Simmenauer did, however, caution that past growth was not a guarantee of future growth.

“2024 will also be a year in which cost explosions and sluggish advance sales will increasingly put many small- and medium- sized events in financial difficulty,” she told MusikWoche.
