Arena Market: Balkans

Multiple notable arenas are found throughout the Balkans, with key venues on the touring map including the likes of Arena Sofia in Bulgaria, Belgrade Arena in Serbia, and Croatia’s Arena Zagreb – each with the capacity to host in excess of 10,000 spectators.

Miroslav Stanec, project manager at Croatia’s Arena Zagreb (18,600) observes that sporting events continue to be highly successful for the arena, as well as music events from local performers, but argues that there’s unmet demand for international content.

“For the last two years, there has been a visible increase in sports and regional concert events, while fairs, conferences, etc, are stagnating.

“Sport is up 30%; we have WTT Contenders, [the World] Handball Championship, judo and wrestling series, and we have an upcoming World Championship Wrestling event. Local and regional bands and singers are always popular, but the audience has had too much of it. There aren’t many international artists, and our audience, our region, is crying out for them.”
