Amid a flurry of meetings with promoters, tourism and sports minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol conceded investment in infrastructure might be necessary to avoid missing out on future must-have tours, with a large-scale indoor concert hall among the possibilities.
Thailand is serious about promoting entertainment tourism. Four cities – Bangkok, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, and Phuket – have already been shortlisted as potential locations for a THB100bn mega-complex involving sports facilities, theatres, and parks. As it stands, none has been selected, though major operators are said to be in talks.
