Arena Market: Ecuador
Historically one of the safest countries in Latin America, Ecuador registered the highest homicide rate in the region in 2024, as a result of a drug-related gang problem of terrifying proportions. On the back of an energy crisis, a diminishing GDP, and rising poverty, the compact Pacific nation has put itself in the hands of a Trump-endorsed right-wing president, and here we are.
But life goes on, and the best arena option in the mountainous capital, Quito, is the 16,000-cap Coliseo General Rumiñahui, built in 1992, which does service as a basketball and volleyball venue but also hosts regular shows.
Smashing Pumpkins, Puerto Rican rapper Residente, Colombian star Juanes, and reformed Argentinian TV band Erreway have all been through in the past year, while Enrique Bunbury, Emilia Mernes, and Duki are on the schedule for the coming months.
